As a mother to two bright, and active children, ages 6 and 3, Maggie is excited to be living at the Mason Street Community. She and her little ones are enjoying participating in the formation of this beautiful, supportive and loving community.

Maggie is a mental health therapist and is also pursuing studies in alternative and holistic health. She loves to read, sing, cook, and entertain, and enjoys art, music, hiking, camping and all things outdoors.

Maggie and her children love being a part of a community where the children can run and play freely with other children and are developing relationships with people of all ages . She knows they will all benefit from living in a community with  open communication, some shared goals and endeavors but also where autonomy and privacy are valued and maintained. They look forward to enjoying things like community meals, shared community traditions, practices and more.

Living with Maggie are roommates Eric and his 8 year old son Auggie. Eric is a development manger for L'Arche Portland, an organization that is a part of an international movement that develops community for those with and without intellectual disabilities.

As an ordained United Methodist deacon, Eric wonders how affordable intentional communities of all shapes and sizes will shape our city for the common good. Eric enjoys walking through the woods in all kinds of weather, running, hauling Auggie around on the back of the electric cargo bike, the local beverage scene, socializing with friends, and his favorite sports team will always be the Chicago Cubs.  Auggie loves playing with legos and riding bikes with his new friends at Mason Street.

Miriam, Julian, and Hugo,

“We are thrilled to join this community of like-minded neighbors, and equally excited and grateful to be settling in to a beautiful, comfortable, and energy-efficient home.

Miriam works from home for an education nonprofit and lives at Mason St. with her children Julian (8) and Hugo (5). Hugo and Julian live here halftime and love playing with neighbors in the courtyard. Miriam is grateful to be able to send her kids outside knowing they have a safe place to play and plenty of friends to share it with.

We look forward to co-creating a space and community that respect and highlight the land on which the homes were built and the neighbors that surround us.”

Kate + Amalia

The Mason St. Townhomes is a perfect home for us and match for our values. I have always dreamed of living in a community where we would know our neighbors, collaborate in an informal and sometimes structured way, and where my daughter would have playmates close enough to visit safely on her own. Through my work and studies in community building and Education I have a lot of experience to share in a co-housing situation and so much to be grateful for as a single Mom. As an educator and non-profit manager of many years, with experience in consensus as a co-op core member in college, I also have a lot to offer in terms of co-managing the property and shared resources.

I am thrilled that we will be living in such a socio-economically diverse neighborhood that is a reflection of our own family’s cultural diversity where we will feel safe and welcome as a mixed-race and bilingual family.

The eco-friendly aspects of the home are right in line with our values. We always aim to use the most healthy products and furnishings in our home and eat as clean and healthy as we can. I am thrilled about the ash floors, wool carpet, and energy efficiency of the home.

Come be our neighbor!

After living in cohousing in Colorado, Jessie, Nathan and Ocean are excited about living in cohousing again here in Portland at Mason Street. Nathan is an avid gardener who has a vision for edible and ornamental gardening at Mason Street and would love to be part of planning shared garden space there. Jessie loves to cook and is excited about organizing some community meals at the common house. When they move to Mason Street, they plan to bring their chickens and cats along too.

Other things about them: Jess is fluent in Spanish and works in women’s health. Nathan works in mental health and from time to time brews his own beer. Ocean (6 years old) has a wonderful imagination and looks forward to meeting other kids and families who move into Mason Street.

Linda Grove had been on the Mason St Townhome wait list from the beginning of the project and was very excited when the construction was complete and she was able to move into the Cully neighborhood.

After working as a medical transcriptionist in Yamhill County Mental Health, she retired to travel and pursue her interests until she found a home.  She landed in Portland and found her spiritual community at Kagyu Changchub Chuling (KCC), a Tibetan Buddhist meditation group newly relocated in Cully, and is now their Operations Manager. She works long hours for KCC but many times works from home so you’ll see her coming and going throughout the day. Linda likes the diversity of Cully and the active community involvement in caring how the neighborhood develops.

In her spare time she likes to play music, read, garden, hike in the Gorge, and visit with friends.  She loves working with others and developing lasting relationships and looks forward to watching the Mason St Community grow and continue to unfold!
